The Jim Carlson Trio / Cool Hand @ Mickeys 5-22-08

Thursday, May 22nd, The Jim Carlson Trio and Cool Hand shared the stage at Mickey's Billiards.

The Jim Carlson Trio was the reunited "Out of Fashion" line up: with Roger Bardo (bass) and Sean McCue (drums).

A unique performance note: This was the first Trio show that I played completely electric...no acoustic guitars, just my 60's Strat. It was a nice change up.

As you can see from the pics, the Trio becomes Cool Hand when Rob Piehl jumps on stage. My role simply changes from 'Trio leader' to 'guitarist' as Rob leads the band.

Summer 2023 Updates

Hello. It's been a while... Since mid 2021, I've been on an extended hiatus from live music performances, save for a song or two here and there.  I've been more interested in electric guitar these last few years, and rarely touch the acoustic. Lately, I've been reviewing my song catalog, and working on arrangements, if only to see what I've got. Stay tuned.  My marketing and business life has been busy. The pandemic caused businesses to focus more on their web presence, and my digital agency has boomed. Additionally, I've been fortunate enough to work a few extended contracts with marketing agencies and businesses who needed long term marketing support and project work. Finally, since 2019 (with a pandemic related break in 2020), I've been working in the professional sports and entertainment industry in the Twin Cities.  Busy, enjoying life. Hope you are, too!

Texting While Driving

Recently, Wisconsin passed a text message ban while driving . There has been a lot of discussion on the dangers of texting while driving. On the flip side, CNN recently reported that cell phone driving bans don't work . As discussed in the first article above, Wisconsin already has a law that outlaws distracted driving, or “being so engaged or occupied as to interfere with the safe driving of that vehicle.”. A couple of months ago, a friend traveling from Minneapolis said something that made me think. He said that he'd never think of texting while navigating the streets of the Twin Cities, but while driving to Wausau he felt comfortable placing an occasional text. I agree. I've been on the road quite a lot lately. When I'm circling the state Capitol in downtown Madison, I would not think of texting, changing a CD, playing with my iPod or even answering my phone. There is just too much going on. Add snow, bad visibility and rush hour, it is clear: Pay attention and...
