Great Week in Music

This last week found me with the busiest performing schedule in years. Four gigs, four days. The best part, each of the four shows were completely different:
  1. Wednesday June 24th, I hosted open mic at Intermission. This was the first time in over a decade I have hosted a formal open mic. Sure, I have 'invited guests, regularly, but this was a bit different. It was a great night with performances by Will Yates, the one and only Jerry Duginski, Rob Piehl, and instrumentalist Tom Cat.
  2. Friday June 26th I performed at the CVA for the Wisconsin Visual Atrists' Guilds "Rhythm & Blues 2009" gallery opening. This show found me performing totally acoustic guitar, no singing. It has been quite a while since I performed as an instrumentalist (in fact the last time was at a previous CVA Gallery Opening).
  3. Friday June 26th - I sat in with The Townies at Malarkey's on percussion. That's right, percussion. Years ago I used to sit in with Mary and The Mercenaries and jam with drummer Dave Keefe. At Tyler's birthday party I sat in for a few songs so we decided to try it for a full length gig. The gig was a blast, in addition to the Townies, members of Unified Soul and Sue Debaco and her Wise Fools also jammed. It was a treat to share the stage with so many talented musicians.
  4. Saturday June 27th - A solo gig at the "Hanger" (WausVegas slang for the VFW). At this gig I was 'discovered'. Yep, if all goes well, I'm well on my way to unlimited riches and glory. Sure contracts have to be worked out, but it looks as though I'm the next big thing. It was good to know you.
Next week, I will fill in for a last minute cancellation for Wausau Area Event's "Live at Lunch" series. This will be a challenge, as the Jim Carlson Trio (Featuring Roger Bardo and Brian Miller) will perform at the same event series two weeks later (July 16th). The challenge simply is keeping the shows as completely different as possible.

Summer 2023 Updates

Hello. It's been a while... Since mid 2021, I've been on an extended hiatus from live music performances, save for a song or two here and there.  I've been more interested in electric guitar these last few years, and rarely touch the acoustic. Lately, I've been reviewing my song catalog, and working on arrangements, if only to see what I've got. Stay tuned.  My marketing and business life has been busy. The pandemic caused businesses to focus more on their web presence, and my digital agency has boomed. Additionally, I've been fortunate enough to work a few extended contracts with marketing agencies and businesses who needed long term marketing support and project work. Finally, since 2019 (with a pandemic related break in 2020), I've been working in the professional sports and entertainment industry in the Twin Cities.  Busy, enjoying life. Hope you are, too!

The Final Gigs at Scott Street Steak & Pub

I've tried to write this entry several times now. The first attempt came across as poorly written eulogy for a funeral. "She was a good Pub, lots of great memories. She will be missed." The second attempt was like a coach trying to rally the team together, "We've seen some great bands here, it has been an honor to share the stage. The Pub may be gone, but the music and memories will live on..." Rubbish. Much has been written about the way the Pub was closed down by CSI: Wausau. [To check out press/blog coverage, scroll down or click here .] All I have to say is that somewhere, someone could have picked up the phone and said, "We're closing you down at midnight, be prepared". I guess that would be too easy... it is a bigger statement to have officers enforce a vague interpretation of a licensing issue. By random chance, I was scheduled to play the last Thursday night the Pub was to be open. I knew from the outset, that this would be no ordi...
