Holiday Tradition

Granite Peak - Christmas Eve 2006It seems like everyone has some sort of holiday tradition. Some people travel to see loved ones (and not so loved ones), some make meals that will yield leftovers for a week. Some people run between relatives, in-laws, out-laws and shuffle their lives between continents. Reading on the WausauBlog, some people's tradition is to spend time completely alone.

I'm somewhere in between. My immediate family is relatively small, and we really don't have any elaborate traditions. So last year, I started my own tradition, which is hitting Granite Peak and skiing (either on x-mas eve or day).

For all of those who may be holding off on hitting the hill due to snow conditions, there is no need. The snow is in great shape, although there are limited runs open (think of it as the way it used to be before the 'great expansion').

Both Christmas Eve and Day, the hill has been wide open. The normal weekend crowds are barely existent, although there are sill some big city folk (Minneapolis, Chicago) and international visitors (mostly German and Chinese). It amazing that the hill in our back yard has become an international destination.

So, those of you who don't have anything to do on Christmas Day 2007, strap on your skis or snowboard and make a day of fresh air and solitude. I'll see you there.

Summer 2023 Updates

Hello. It's been a while... Since mid 2021, I've been on an extended hiatus from live music performances, save for a song or two here and there.  I've been more interested in electric guitar these last few years, and rarely touch the acoustic. Lately, I've been reviewing my song catalog, and working on arrangements, if only to see what I've got. Stay tuned.  My marketing and business life has been busy. The pandemic caused businesses to focus more on their web presence, and my digital agency has boomed. Additionally, I've been fortunate enough to work a few extended contracts with marketing agencies and businesses who needed long term marketing support and project work. Finally, since 2019 (with a pandemic related break in 2020), I've been working in the professional sports and entertainment industry in the Twin Cities.  Busy, enjoying life. Hope you are, too!

Texting While Driving

Recently, Wisconsin passed a text message ban while driving . There has been a lot of discussion on the dangers of texting while driving. On the flip side, CNN recently reported that cell phone driving bans don't work . As discussed in the first article above, Wisconsin already has a law that outlaws distracted driving, or “being so engaged or occupied as to interfere with the safe driving of that vehicle.”. A couple of months ago, a friend traveling from Minneapolis said something that made me think. He said that he'd never think of texting while navigating the streets of the Twin Cities, but while driving to Wausau he felt comfortable placing an occasional text. I agree. I've been on the road quite a lot lately. When I'm circling the state Capitol in downtown Madison, I would not think of texting, changing a CD, playing with my iPod or even answering my phone. There is just too much going on. Add snow, bad visibility and rush hour, it is clear: Pay attention and...
